Your Mid-year update on
Christ Church Mission's Community Centre, St Kilda

Hello <<First Name>>

Welcome to your mid-year update on Christ Church Mission’s Community Centre, St Kilda.  Gratefully we've experienced the kindness of others and here are some snapshots …

Cold-Weather Gear

Thanks to Hanes we have received boxes and boxes of underwear and socks, and atep (Apprenticeship & Traineeship Employment Partners) have given boxes of caps and berets to help ward off the worst of the cold for people who lack money for such luxuries.  Along with the appreciation of the people who come to us for help we express our thanks to GIVIT, our channel to this generosity.

Coming Soon

We’re partnering with the Port Phillip Community Group in a pre-employment project.  This is supported by Adult Community & Further Education (ACFE).  The pilot aims to prepare people for real jobs, developing practical cooking and hospitality skills in our Centre, with supported placement in local businesses.

We will keep you posted on progress – or call Elizabeth on 9534-9250
or email communitycentre@christchurchstkilda.org.au for more details.

No snow on our June First Saturday monthly Plant Sale … and we didn’t mind!  And if it doesn’t rain cats & dogs on Saturday 6 July, our intrepid gardeners will be there again in our Community Kitchen Garden – 14 Acland Street, St Kilda, 10am-1pm, between the Vicarage and Theatre Works.  Not just vegetables, either.

Toyota to our aid

Our Community Kitchen Garden has a new water source thanks to a community grant from the Toyota Community Foundation and the City of Port Phillip - tanks to collect and store rainwater run-off from the vicarage roof.  Here are representatives from Toyota and the Council, with Elaine (right) who coordinates our garden programs.

How is it to be a Little Fish?

Four of Australia’s top charities have joined forces to create an independent, not-for-profit fundraising organisation to provide a sustainable flow of funds to the four organisations.  Sounds great, but for us - relatively a minnow in the community - our survival has become just that more challenging!

More than ever, we need your help to keep these doors opening

Each month hundreds of people come into our Centre.  Whether for emergency food, one of the 12-step self-help groups (Narcotics Anonymous, Alcoholics Anonymous), our weekly evening Dinner, a yoga group, to do some creative quilting, or for a listening ear, people hope and need these doors to be open.  We can only afford to open 3 days a week.

Of course we need money to keep our doors open and to keep the Centre warm, clean and welcoming. We are known for being available and confidentially personal within a safe environment – your donation will help us keep it this way.
Donations of $2 and more to the work of our Centre can give you a tax deduction - plus the satisfaction of helping our work flourish.

How? Just click on this link below and nominate your gift.  You will receive a receipt and our work will receive a much-needed boost.
Click here & see how easily you can make a donation before 30 June
Warm Regards
