Your Christmas Update from
Christ Church Mission's Community Centre, St Kilda

Hello <<First Name>>

You will be pleased to know that we have remained open for Emergency Relief throughout the year: an amazing achievement in this difficult year.  It means we have been able to care for an increased demand of over 300%.  Big thanks to our staff, volunteers, South Port Uniting Church Mission and Collier Charitable Trust for making this possible.  Now for the task of resuming all our programs safely in 2021 and renewing acquaintance with all our volunteers. We're asking for your help to achieve this.

Saying thanks to volunteers
We were unable to host the end of year event that we had planned for the year to celebrate the volunteers who have continued to support the programs despite the Covid-19 restrictions.  International Volunteer Day was on December 5, 2020.  We wish to express our greatest appreciation for the efforts, skills and the time that each volunteer willingly contributes to help with the smooth running of activities and programs.  We can only do what we do with the helping hands of everyone.  We give a really big THANK YOU to everyone who lends a hand and we look forward to a New Year with many new volunteer opportunities.

The Kitchen Garden December Plant Sale
After having a quiet year on the plant sale front, we had the first sale since March and really made up for the absence.  People were delighted to see us return and grabbed themselves a bargain with most plants within the range of 3 seedlings for $5 (with some kindly propagated and donated to our cause by a neighbour and her 3-year-old son), $5 for small plants and $10 for medium sized plants.  With the help of 2 volunteers who were kept busy all day making sales and chatting with people passing by, we managed to reach our highest sales ever with a whopping $550 raised to contribute to the Kitchen Garden Project.  The funds help us to provide training equipment and supplies to keep the program thriving.  We thank everyone for their support and look forward to the plant sales returning in February.

Open House Christmas Dinner
Our Open House Christmas Dinner is always something to which we look forward but this year is the first in which it is a takeaway meal, due to COVID-19.  We have continued to prepare a weekly take away meal throughout the year with the regular help of 5 volunteers as we worked within the social distancing guidelines.  This year, we have been blessed by a generous donation from Charlene, a local resident who provided the main ingredient for the meal: 4 generous sized Turkey Buffes.   We are most grateful for the kindness demonstrated by local people and wish everyone the blessings of the season to you.

Wishing you best wishes for the Christmas and good health for the new year which we trust sees a return to some sort of normality.  Still hoping the day is not far off when we can welcome you again to the Centre.
