Your End of Financial Year Update on
Christ Church Mission's Community Centre, St Kilda

Hello <<First Name>>

Isolation greetings!   As we head to the end of the financial year and into winter, thought you would like to know how Christ Church Mission’s Community Centre in St Kilda is handling the increased demand due to COVID-19.      And the demands on our services have significantly increased:
2019 in 12 months: 3,512 meals distributed and 852 people provided with Emergency Relief.
2020 in 5 months:  3,985 meals distributed and 590 people provided with Emergency Relief

Emergency Relief
Due to the significantly increasing numbers of people seeking assistance we are extending our opening times.  From  Monday 15 June, we will be open Monday to Friday from 10.30 to 1.30 pm to address the demand.  We provide fresh fruit and vegetables collected and delivered by Second Bite; frozen meals prepared by the RACV chefs, non-perishable items from Foodbank as well as many generous donations from the community.

Open House dinner
Our regular weekly Open House Meal consists of a free, 3 course meal and diners usually enjoy the meal in a dining hall that caters for up to 100 people.  The sumptuous meal is served on Wednesday evenings but since March 27 we have been doing things quite differently since the coronavirus response came into place.
In order to continue to provide a no cost and nourishing meal for people who are experiencing difficulties our team of volunteers prepare a take away hot meal which can be collected from the front door from 4.30 to 6.15pm.   Note the social distancing rules on the Board!

Garden Nomads out in the neighbourhood
Garden Nomads are individual volunteers who work with elderly, frail or disabled local residents who are unable to care for their garden alone, but are still living independently.  The program provides training opportunities for new volunteers who wish to develop garden maintenance skills and build confidence.  Timing and regularity of the gardening sessions are negotiated to suit the volunteer and the resident.  If you are someone, either a resident or volunteer, who would benefit from joining the Garden Nomads program please contact us on:  9534 9250  That's Leigh in the photo returning from a gardening job (socially distancing).
