Summer is ending.  Time for an update from
Christ Church Mission's Community Centre, St Kilda

Hello <<First Name>>

How have we managed to meet the demand for our Emergency Relief when it is continuing at the high levels of 2020?   It's through the help of volunteers and our core supporter:  the South Port Uniting Church Parish Mission.  Our expansion has been helped by Collier Charitable Trust, City of Port Phillip and the Victorian Government.  Other programs are slowly resuming but the COVID safe requirements still restrict gatherings.

100 kg of fresh food each week
Each week we utilise 30kg of fresh food to prepare the Wednesday night meals (prepared by an amazing team of 6 volunteers) and 70 kg in our emergency food parcels now dispensed 5 days a week.   We receive regular deliveries from Second Bite and  Foodbank.  These programs help to address the issues of poverty, hunger, crime prevention and food waste in the community.   Above all else, we see they make a positive difference to alleviate stress for the people who visit us for assistance.  We are grateful for the support provided by funding bodies shown at the end of this newsletter and our volunteers.  Big thanks to the Parish for the notice placed on our Acland st site after a difficult 2020.

Volunteer opportunity to transform gardens - and address loneliness
We have received an increasing number of call outs from the local community for assistance in their gardens: an example is in the photo.  A generous team of garden volunteers, the ‘Garden Nomads’ are only just managing to keep up with the demand. The challenges of the past year have increased the feelings of loneliness and isolation within the community.  Our Garden Nomad volunteers are reporting positive stories.  We are very grateful for the volunteers and the City of Port Phillip for the generous support that makes this program possible.  Volunteers are encouraged to apply as we have plenty of opportunities - especially for gardeners.  See our website for information. www.ccm.org.au  or email communitycentre@ccm.org.au or call 9534 9250.

Student Placement
We are always excited when we get the opportunity to support people who are keen to develop their skills and confidence through participating in our programs.   Introducing our latest student Tania who is an  international student working to complete her 3rd year Bachelor of Community Services.  Tania will be able to secure a start in her career in the community sector through her studies and her experience gained here at the Centre.

Enjoy the autumn colours.  With Easter approaching, we would love to surprise people seeking help from our Emergency Relief program by giving them Easter eggs.   If you feel you can help, please drop Easter eggs at the Centre between 11 and 2 on weekdays  - and make someone's day!
