Latest pre Easter and COVID 19 news from
Christ Church Mission's Community Centre, St Kilda

Hello <<First Name>>

COVID19 has caused us to review our programs to address both the health requirements and new expected needs.  We know we will have to be flexible to cope.  Please read on to see how we are responding.

Wednesday night Open House
In response to the new rules on social distancing, the Open House meal is being handed out at the entrance to the Centre in disposable containers for consumption away from the Centre.  This means we can still provide a great meal and save our volunteers and participants from unnecessary contacts.  We believe the Open House Meal is an essential service which we aim to keep offering.   We are also anticipating an increase in demand in coming weeks for both the Meal and our Emergency food service.   Long life milk is always in demand.   If you can, please drop some into the Centre.

Men’s Group:
A new inclusive support group for men seeking social connection and guidance with their mental wellbeing has been established.  Facilitated by a qualified mental health worker the program is on every Tuesday afternoon from 3 to 5pm at the Christ Church Mission Community Centre, 14 Acland Street.   Why Men?   We would welcome your enquiry!

Kitchen Garden ‘Circle of Life’
We have the “Circle of Life” kitchen garden for growing herbs and vegetables for the Open House Meal Program.  The garden is open on Thursdays from 1.30 to 3pm.  With regular workshops, tools, support and training available, volunteers are welcome to join in, to share skills and learn from each other about growing and caring for the garden.  Composting, weeding, plant propagation and a monthly plant sale are some of the regular activities that keep the gardeners busy.

Volunteers
We are in constant awe of the dedication of the centre’s volunteers for their enthusiasm, positivity and abilities.  We have cooks, a hospitality team, gardeners, activity leaders, cleaners, fundraisers, grant writers, ideas people and committee members.  There are many roles and options for participating as a volunteer – we strive to match your availability and skills to a role, so give us a call and see how we can accommodate you.  We are currently seeking help with the Garden Nomad program and drivers who have a large vehicle for collecting bread on Tuesday evenings.  If this interests you especially, we would welcome your call on 9534 9250.  PS: this photo was taken before the social distancing guidance came into effect!
